(REPOST) Episode 7, Knit along and Baycon

Posted by: Miss Kalendar  :  Category: Announcements, Episodes

In Episode 7, Miss K. teams up with Christhefixedkitty over at the Adult Space Child Free Podcast in order to launch a sock KAL.  Since Chris has never before knit a sock, she picked the pattern, the Cabletini Toe-up Socks by Wendy D Johnson. The pattern is also available from Wendy’s website, and was originally published by the Loopy Ewe.  Come join us on the the thread for this knit along on the Brass Needles board on Ravelry. (you know you want to!)

Because this weekend was BayCon, the San Jose-based Sci-Fi convention (this year’s theme was Steampunk),  there is are a few notes on this and the soon to be created Borg Beanie, which I am striving to write a pattern for this week. We shall see if ambition again lays me low.

Sadly, Gail Carriger is again missing from the podcast, and has lamented that her diligent searching hasn’t turned up anything podcast-worthy. Knitting has been conspicuously missing from the fashion pages. However, she assures me that she’ll have a report for us when she returns from the BEAs on Knitwear in New York.

I’m famous!

Posted by: Miss Kalendar  :  Category: Announcements

Well, maybe not famous, but I did just find that part of a short interview I did while teaching knitting at SteamPowered Convention in October made it into an article online. The article is with Bizarremag.com. I would like to point out that I did not drop a stitch. link here.

There’s even a picture of me teaching someone to knit in the sidebar of the article. Squeeeeeee!!!

Episode 6. The Star Trek Free Episode

Posted by: Miss Kalendar  :  Category: Episodes

There is no Star Trek in this episode because Miss K doesn’t like to give spoilers and wants everyone who is interested to have a chance to see the movie before she goes off the deep-end about it.

In Episode 6, Miss Kalendar gives an update on the puff-sleeve feminine cardigan and the frankensocks she’s been working on. There is also a quick teaser for an upcoming project with ChrisFixedKitty of the Adult Space Child-Free Podcast.

There is no fashion from Gail Carriger this week – she’s off at a lady’s garden party.

There is, however a quick discussion of upcoming Baycon, the San Jose-are Science Fiction convention, chock full of parties, panels, authors, and steam-punk. There are a few quick tips for how to steam-punk your normal clothes in a hurry.  For more in-depth costuming as well as more information and resources for steam-punk as a whole, visit Gail’s steam-punk page.

The science fiction segment is a shout out to indie sci-fi writers and producers – those who are making sci-fi for the rest of us, often for free, and using their own time and money to do so. Celebrate non-mainstream media artisans!

After the sign-off, there are two promos from independent serial sci-fi podcasters. Give them a try or try one of the other great sci-fi writers putting their stuff out there. Links are on the sidebar.

Episode 5, How is a Cardigan like a Sock Heel?

Posted by: Miss Kalendar  :  Category: Episodes

In Episode 5, Miss Kalendar speaks to her personal ick factor on the Borg and the Cyberman. There is a special knitting fashion report by Gail Carriger, and we find out how cardigan shaping is similar to sock heel shaping – or at least that both are very fun to do.

Miss K sincerely appologizes that this episode is a day late – not that anyone probably noticed.  She awoke to a broken power supply and then ended up spending all day (and momst of the night)  Sunday with J. Daniel Saywer, Kitty, and Chris Lester, recording the feedback shows for the Metamor City Podcast and Predestination and Other Games of Chance. Give them a listen if you’ve got a minute, they are both great Sci-Fi stories.

Episode 4, To Cardigan or to Sock?

Posted by: Miss Kalendar  :  Category: Episodes

In Episode 4, we learn that “Shorning” is not a word.  Miss K. speaks about the challenge of knitting a proper-fitting sweater, the seduction of casting on socks, the Shawl that Time Forgot, her favorite Sci-Fi book series, and Star Trek 6.    Floating. Pink. Klingon. Blood.  There is also a knit fashion on the runways segment with Soulless author, Gail Carriger.

Visit Gail Carriger’s website to learn more about Soulless,  fashion, and Victorian Era life.

Visit Louis McMaster Bujold’s website to learn more about the Miles Vorkosigan series and her other publications.
